OVERCOMING LIMITING BELIEFS SO YOU CAN GET ON WITH PAINTING! How a student overcame
self-doubt at Melbourne Blooms Has your self esteem as an artist ever been impacted by the opinions of others and made you feel less than capable of painting or calling yourself an artist? We were talking at the Blooms Melbourne workshop about what ideas we may have floating around that could get in the way of creating two beautiful paintings by the end of the workshop. Some interesting conversations unfolded! One of my lovely students shared that as a student in high school, her art teacher advised her to give up painting
because she would never be any good at it. Shocking right? I wanted to get the name and number of this art teacher and give him a good talking to! Art teachers are supposed to encourage their students and teach them the skills they need!! Teaching with my Blooms Painting Method, is about teaching a system of painting & demystifying the processes so my students can do this too. Empowering the student is what
it's all about. Thanks to Loren Boyd for this photo from the Blooms Sunshine Coast Painting Workshop. Let's interrogate old ideas that never did work for us! Perhaps this particular not very kind art teacher from high school, entrusted with the job of teaching and nurturing, was a failed artist with few skills and no confidence to teach and empower and others. So sad! Especially when you think how damaging his comments. If he was any good as an art teacher he would realise that ANYONE can paint. Just show
them how! However just because we come across one rotten egg doesn't mean we have to give up on our passions, hopes and dreams forever! Now we ourselves are adults, we are in the position to question these opinions, even retrospectively! Sometimes the people that have said bad comments do it out of jealousy and usually incompetence and misinformation. Perhaps they don't want you to have something they won't give to themselves! You can immediately discount comments given by have-not peeps! Teaching from my point of view is about generously sharing information that will quickly help my students to gain confidence
an d great results which in turn then change self belief, to open them to a world of creative possibility. . Thanks to Loren Boyd for this photo from the Blooms Sunshine Coast Painting Workshop. 'I can't believe the standard of the Blooms paintings results in the room that you achieved for your students,
knowing from where they each started the workshop! It's AMAZING!' -Sue Robinson, Maui, USA Another student had a
sleazy graphic design lecturer that put her off pursuing her creativity as a young woman. That would be very off putting, however now we are adults we must remember that the only person that can really stop us is ourselves.
Luckily my students handed themselves in to my Blooms Painting workshop in Melbourne last week and agreed these stops to their creativity could be
challenged and upturned. These students then proceeded to do outstanding paintings one step at a time completely blitzing past limiting beliefs! My favourite thing about teaching my no fail Blooms method is seeing the transformations in abilities and self belief that
take place for my workshop students. Realising that the creative dream is within reach after learning the processes is a ticket to creative joy and freedom to move ahead. I saw all of my students overcome old outdated ideas and bloom into confident painters by the end of the Melbourne Blooms painting workshop. Judge the results for yourself from these newbie painters from the photos in today's blog featured below. Congrats to all by the way! Blast from the past! It was great to catch up with Linda (on the left) , who I used to work with in advertising 30 years ago! We were both young art directors! It was also great to meet new students such as Louise from Dandenong. Both
Louise and Linda made great friends with the other ladies who have plans to catch up and paint together! Awesome! On the Melbourne trip I had a stowaway student! I travelled to Melbourne with Sue from Hawaii who was in Australia to do the Sunshine Coast Blooms and then the Melbourne Blooms painting workshop, and also Trish Arden,
a sometimes Blooms student, selling artist and very fun friend who came along to assist me for the Melbourne Blooms. Many of you know Trish, who also created a beautiful painting. Sue went from strength to strength in her second workshop & finished with these two gorgeous paintings. The first set were great. This second set of paintings showed beautiful paint coverage, accomplished blending, rich colour and finish. Rapid progress was made! A few of the students followed me closely through the demos for the Blooms caramel tulip enjoying seeing all of the details for the painting shown. I will offer a specific painting in each Blooms workshop in case students want to follow the exact same painting as me. Of course the usual stunning array of choices is still available. No matter which way you choose at the workshop all painting outcomes are assured. Your choice! UPCOMING BLOOMS TRAINING DATES WITH ME ( there won't be so many Blooms Painting Workshops in Australia next year) : I am super excited that finally I get to NZ ( arriving Saturday!) without Covid restrictions getting in the way and also I have a venue access I am totally happy with! Now my kids are overseas I will be in Europe for longer in 2023 Trish assisted at Blooms Melbourne and we took a few days to enjoy the Mornington Peninsula for a nice break after the Sunshine Coast workshop as well as showing off a bit of
Australia to visiting USA student Sue. One of the pleasures of travelling with teaching my Blooms is to hang out with my students, catch up with friends, and in this case, enjoy a typical hip Melbourne cafe breakfast on Chapel Street
in Prahran last Sunday morning We had lots of fun at the workshop and created 18 big blooms paintings. The group enjoyed delicious freshly made catering each day and raved
about it! My risotto with gremolata was especially popular! Whilst in Melbourne I caught up with my mum on the Mornington Peninsula where we had a seafood and bubbles lunch at my Beach box. We have
to make the most of these special moments. I also shared the day with friends. Trish whipped up a painting while I ducked off for a zoom! I also heard from my son Hannibal that his art course in portraiture in Florence is going well so that was great news. Phew! He’ll be spending
all of this year drawing. He found this course himself. All his idea! More about this another time! MELBOURNE BLOOMING IN SPRING In the meantime, spring in
Melbourne was going off big time. We managed a visit to the Melbourne Botanic gardens in time to enjoy the spring blossoms and camellias. In the florists and green grocers, the tulips, poppies, ranunculas, roses and orchids were spectacular. I’m now enjoying a couple of days at home in the Barossa which is also on spring steroids! Then I head to Hamilton, New Zealand for a Blooms
workshop starting on Monday next week. No place like home. The duck pond at Kapunda on the eve I returned whilst walking my dogs Claude and Vincent. The pobblebonk frogs were making quite the chorus last night! NEW PEONY PAINTING PROJECT Can’t join me for a live workshop ?
